Hamas, Israel to Complain to UN About Raids VOA News 22 December 2010 The Gaza Strip's Hamas rulers say they will file a complaint with the United Nations against Israeli air raids on the Palestinian territory. Hamas spokesman Taher al-Nunu said Wednesday they are contacting several countries to "explain the aggressive behavior" of Israel. The comment comes hours after Israel submitted a complaint to the U.N. about what it calls an "escalation of terrorist attacks" from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Israeli ambassador to the U.N. Meron Reuben said a spate of rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza into southern Israel have occurred since mid-December. In his letter, he urges U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the Security Council and the international community to "send a clear and resolute message" that the attacks are unacceptable. Israel's Foreign Affairs Ministry made the letter public Wednesday, a day after Israel said a Kassam rocket exploded near a kindergarten in the Ashkelon area of southern Israel as parents were dropping off children. The blast wounded a teenage girl. Israeli warplanes carried out at least seven air strikes in Gaza late Monday and Tuesday, wounding at least two people. Israeli military officials said they carried out the strikes after at least 10 mortar rounds were fired from Gaza into Israel. Israel blames Hamas for the incidents in its letter to the U.N. Some information for this report was provided by AFP.
