US Charges 14 With Aiding Somalia's al-Shabab VOA News 05 August 2010 The U.S. government says 14 people in three U.S. states have been charged with providing support to the Somali terror group al-Shabab. Attorney General Eric Holder says the individuals are U.S. naturalized citizens from Alabama, California and Minnesota.  He alleged they provided money, personnel or services to al-Shabab, which the United States has designated as a foreign terror organization. He said the charges reflect a "very disturbing trend." Holder said the indictment, announced Thursday in Washington, alleges that two women who have been arrested raised money door-to-door in the United States and Canada for the group, including by saying they were seeking funds to help the poor. The attorney general said some of the indicted are still at large, including American Abu Mansour al-Amriki, who has appeared in a jihadist video.
