Demonstrators voiced their anger over the Philippine government's handling of the siege in the heart of Manila Monday. Philippine groups staged their own events Sunday, including a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the victims. On Thursday, Hong Kong residents observed three minutes of silence, and flags across the Chinese territory were lowered to half-staff. The eight people were part of a tour group held hostage on a bus by a disgraced former police officer, Roberto Mendoza. The standoff ended 12 hours later, when Mendoza opened fire on the passengers and was killed by a police sniper.
