Chinese Airliner Crashes With More Than 90 on Board VOA News 24 August 2010 Chinese state media say more than 20 people have been hospitalized after a passenger plane overshot a runway in the northeast of the country and burst into flames. Reports say at least 47 people were rescued from the Henan Airlines plane, which crashed on landing at an airport at Yichun City in Heilongjiang province. The official Xinhua news agency says at least 91 people were on board the plane, which took off before 9 p.m. Tuesday local time from Harbin city and crashed a little more than an hour later.  Initial reports provided conflicting information about the type of aircraft involved and the number of people on board. Henan Airlines is a regional carrier based in northern China. It was launched in 2007 as a joint enterprise between Shenzhen Airlines of China and U.S.-based Mesa Air Group. Mesa later sold its stake in the airline. Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters. .
