Roadside Bombs, Shootings Kill 7 in Baghdad VOA News 15 August 2010 Iraqi officials say a series of roadside bombs and shootings killed at least seven people Sunday and wounded several. Police say three people, including a police officer, were killed when a bomb struck a minibus heading into the central part of the Iraqi capital. In a separate incident, officials said one person was killed and seven others wounded by three bombs in northern Baghdad. Elsewhere, Iraqi police say three Sunni worshippers were killed in a drive-by shooting as they were leaving a mosque after morning prayers in Babil province, south of Baghdad. The shooting occurred during the first week of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. Security forces have been frequent targets of insurgents in recent months as the United States reduces its troop strength in Iraq. White House officials said last week the U.S. is on track to end its combat mission in Iraq at the end of the month.  Fifty-thousand U.S. troops will remain in Iraq to serve as a transitional force. U.S. President Barack Obama has set a goal of removing all U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of 2011.
