Officials said Wednesday that a helicopter dispatched to eastern Greenland spotted the 15 kayakers. Earlier reports had said there were 14 people in the group. Rescue crews began searching for the kayakers after a group of six German paddlers told authorities they had seen other kayakers in the area before a sudden storm with hurricane-force winds roared through the area Monday. The groups had been kayaking in a system of fjords near the remote settlement of Illoqqortoormiut, when the storm hit. Denmark granted Greenland wide local self-rule in 1979. The territory attracts thousands of tourists who hike in the summer months and paddle in a vast network of fiords with giant icebergs.  Some information for this report was provided by AP. .
