Gunmen in Military Uniforms Kill 25 in Iraqi Village 03 April 2010 Iraqi officials say gunmen wearing military uniforms have stormed three houses in a Sunni village near Baghdad, killing at least 25 people. Police say the victims, including five women, were handcuffed before being shot in the head late Friday in the Arab Jabour area, south of the capital. Several others with their hands bound were found alive after the killings. Iraqi officials cordoned off the area and detained at least 17 people in connection with the murders. Officials say many of the dead were members of the Awakening movement, government-backed Sunni militias that helped U.S. and Iraqi forces fight al-Qaida in 2006 and 2007. The former Sunni insurgents are credited with helping drastically reduce violence in Iraq.
