Dozens Killed in Powerful Earthquake in China The 6.9 magnitude quake struck the area around Tibet early Wednesday VOA News 13 April 2010 Chinese state-run media say 67 people are dead after a strong earthquake struck the area around Tibet in China early Wednesday. Â Xinhua news agency says it has learned from local and military officials that many people are buried under the debris in the northwestern province of Qinghai. The U.S. Geological Survey says the 6.9 magnitude earthquake was centered 240 kilometers north of Qamdo prefecture, which borders China's Sichuan province.
