Officials say Monday's attack took place at a checkpoint outside the city. Four police officers were among the dead. Ramadi is in Iraq's Anbar province, which was once an insurgent stronghold. But violence there greatly decreased after local Sunni tribes sided with the U.S. military in 2006 to fight against al-Qaida. Also Monday, police say two car bombs exploded in separate districts of Baghdad. One of the explosions killed a civilian and wounded at least three other people.
