Mr. Brown has said he hopes to gain new momentum for what he calls the "special relationship" between Britain and the United States. The talks also aim to lay the groundwork for a Group of 20 nations summit next month in London. The British premier has called for a "global New Deal" to revive the world economy, referring to the economic policies former U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt used to lift the United States out of the Great Depression. Mr. Brown wrote in London's Sunday Times that all nations should agree to inject cash into their economies and agree to international banking reforms and an overhaul of financial institutions. He wrote that he and President Obama can implement economic policies "! whose impact can stretch from the villages of Africa to reforming the financial institutions of London and New York."Mr. Brown will be the first European leader to meet with Mr. Obama since the president took office in January. On Wednesday, Mr. Brown will deliver a speech to the U.S. Congress, where he is expected to urge U.S. lawmakers to abandon protectionist policies.
