India Bridge Collapse Kills at Least 9 VOA News 25 December 2009 Indian officials say a bridge under construction has collapsed in western India, killing at least nine people and leaving some 30 others trapped. The officials say at least five people were injured in the accident late Thursday near Kota in the state of Rajasthan. Rescuers were working Friday to free the trapped workers but fear some may have fallen into the Chambal river below. The Indian army has been called in to assist with the rescue effort. Officials have launched an investigation into the accident. Meanwhile, officials in New Delhi say a fire broke out at the rugby stadium being built for next year's Commonwealth Games. No one was injured, but it took firefighters about two hours to put out the blaze. Officials say the fire originated in an area where crews were installing new material.
