Mr. Obama said he will make the request Monday during his first full Cabinet meeting and announce which government programs will be cut in following weeks. During the president's weekly radio address Saturday, Mr. Obama said the economic crisis has forced the United States to make investments that will expand the nation's deficit and debt. He said the current course is "unsustainable" and building a solid economic foundation requires a painstaking examination of how every dollar is spent. During Saturday's Republican response, U.S. Representative Kevin Mc Carthy of California said Mr. Obama is calling for too much spending and borrowing. Mc Carthy criticized Mr. Obama's budget plan as "irresponsible." .
