In his weekly address Saturday, Mr. Obama pointed to the Christian holiday of Easter and the Jewish Passover as times to reflect on unity and the obligations to each other irrespective of race or creed. The president said no single nation can confront alone the problems stemming from terrorism, nuclear weapons, or the economic crisis. He called on nations to put aside their differences and work together on solutions. In this week's Republican address, the governor of the midwestern state of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty, criticized President Obama's plans for the U.S. economy. He said the president's proposed budget will create "mountains" of new debt that will require higher taxes in the future. Pawlenty said Republicans supported Mr. Obama's proposals to lower taxes, but said the budget does not provide that tax relief. Mr. Obama's first overseas trip included stops at the G20 summit last week in London and a NATO meeting on the French-German border. He also visited Turkey and Iraq.
