Zuma had petitioned the court in Pietermaritzburg to dismiss the charges of money-laundering, corruption, fraud and racketeering. A long corruption trial for Zuma could have meant a legal battle overlapped with a general election in 2009, in which he is expected to be the frontrunner for president. On Wednesday, a pro-Zuma march in the port city of Durban turned violent when demonstrators threw stones at police. And earlier this week, the ruling ANC party angrily denounced a carton that depicted Zuma preparing to rape a woman representing "justice." Zuma was acquitted of rape in 2006.
