60 Dead in Kyrgyzstan Earthquake

6.6 magnitude quake hits late Sunday near Chinese border 
Emergency officials say an earthquake in southern Kyrgyzstan has killed
at least 60 people. The U.S. Geological Survey measured the quake's
intensity at 6.6. The quake struck Sunday at 9:52 pm local time (15:52
UTC) and was centered 65 kilometers southeast of Sary-Tash. Officials
say the quake injured another 50 people and destroyed at least 120
buildings in the village of Nura, near Kyrgyzstan's mountainous border
with China. Nura is a remote village with a population of just under one
thousand. Officials said rescue operations are continuing to see if
anyone is still buried under the debris.
