Security sources say the bomber detonated his car Thursday in a busy shopping district in the Bab al-Sharji area of Baghdad. In recent weeks, insurgents have stepped up attacks in Baghdad after a lull in violence. Double roadside bombings last week in a commercial area of the capital killed nearly 70 people. In other news, an Italian Catholic news agency (SIR) says a Chaldean Catholic archbishop kidnapped in Iraq late last month has been found dead near the northern city of Mosul. The agency quotes Bishop Shlemon Warduni of Baghdad as saying the kidnappers of Paulos Faraj Rahho had buried him. In Rome, Pope Benedict said he is deeply saddened by the death of Rahho. Rahho, the Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Mosul, was abducted by gunmen after a shootout in the city killed his driver and two companions. No one has claimed responsibility for his abduction.
