August 28, 2008 McCain Expected to Reveal Vice Presidential Choice Friday --------------------------------------------------------- http://enews.voanews.com/t?ctl=1DEB29C:A6F02AD83191E1600D7D88C2BDE2B55E5C6F54A6CF9DC2CA& Among those believed to be under consideration: former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut Sen. John Mc Cain (File) Sources close to likely Republican presidential nominee John Mc Cain have told U.S. news agencies the Arizona senator has settled on a vice-presidential running mate. Mc Cain will formally introduce his pick during a rally in Dayton, Ohio Friday morning - the day after Democratic rival Barack Obama formally accepts his party's presidential nomination. Among those believed to be under consideration by Mc Cain include former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. The possible choice of Lieberman is drawing considerable fire from hardline conservatives over his support for abortion rights. Lieberman was Democrat Al Gore's vice-presidential running mate in 2000, but has since become an independent due to his support for the U.S.-led war in Iraq. Meanwhile, the Republican Party has adopted its campaign agenda ahead of next week's national convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, where Mc Cain will formally become the party's presidential nominee. The party agenda, or platform, advocates support for offshore oil drilling, but does not include drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. U.S. President George Bush and other advocates have strongly supported drilling in the federally-protected refuge. The platform also acknowledges that human activity has contributed to an increase in carbon emissions, which has been identified as the cause of global warming.
