Barack Obama speaks during a town hall meeting, at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, 21 Aug 2008U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says he has selected his running mate but is not yet ready to reveal who it is. Senator Obama made the comment to reporters while campaigning in the state of Virginia Thursday. He is expected to announce the name of his vice presidential running mate by Saturday, two days before the start of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. Meanwhile, Obama depicted Republican rival John Mc Cain as out of touch with economic reality, after the Arizona senator admitted in an interview with the political website Politico that he does not know how many homes he and his wife Cindy own. The Mc Cain campaign responded by noting that Obama earned more than $4 million last year and also recently enjoyed a vacation on a private beach in Hawaii. The candidates have no public events scheduled for Friday. Newsweek magazine recently estimated that Mc Cain and his wife, who comes from a wealthy family, own at least seven properties. The Mc Cain campaign said the couple owns at least four homes in three states. Mc Cain may announce the name of his running mate during a rally on August 29. The Republican National Convention begins September 1 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Separately, the two campaigns announced that both candidates will take part in three debates in September and October on foreign policy, national security, and economic and domestic policy. A vice presidential debate is scheduled for early October. .
