Barack Obama (file photo)The top two U.S. presidential candidates, Republican John Mc Cain and Democrat Barack Obama, have both condemned Russia's military attacks in Georgia. Obama said Russia escalated the conflict "well beyond" the dispute over South Ossetia and that there is "no possible justification" for the attacks inside Georgia. In a statement Monday, the Illinois senator called for a U.N. Security Council resolution demanding an immediate end to the violence. He said the attacks by Russia are a "clear violation of the sovereignty and internationally recognized borders of Georgia."Mc Cain has urged the U.N. Security Council to condemn Russia's actions, which he said are in "clear violation of international law" and have no place in 21st Century Europe. Mc Cain called for an emergency NATO meeting to demand a cease-fire and begin discussions on deploying peacekeepers to South Ossetia and examining NATO's future relationship with Russia.
