The military says insurgents opened fire on the U.S. aircraft Saturday with rifles and a rocket-propelled grenade, prompting the aircraft to shoot back. In other fighting, the U.S. military says coalition forces killed two suspected terrorists and detained more than 30 across Iraq Sunday and Saturday. It says one coalition raid in Baghdad led to the capture of 15 suspected members of the Iraqi Special Groups an Iran-linked organization involved in weapons smuggling. Meanwhile, Iraq's defense ministry says Iraqi soldiers have killed 40 militants since Saturday in operations in three Iraqi provinces of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk. In another development, Iraqi police say gunmen killed a Sunni politician and three of his bodyguards today in the northern city of Mosul.  The politician, Momtaz Mahmud Ibrahim, was a member of the Nineveh provincial council.
