Colombian officials say the footage was seized from three suspected members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC. The tapes are the first images since 2003 that provide evidence the hostages may still be alive. The FARC wants to exchange Betancourt and the Americans for jailed rebel hostages. But Colombia recently suspended Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez from his role as mediator in talks to free the hostages. Betancourt was abducted in 2002 while campaigning for the presidency. The American trio were seized a year later after their plane went down during a counter-narcotics mission. Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters. .
