No details of the talks were released, and there was no mention of the monarch's recent sharp criticism of the U.S. military presence in Iraq. Cheney is on a Middle East tour seeking international support for efforts to stabilize Iraq. His discussions with Middle East leaders also have been aimed at countering what he calls Iran's move to dominate the region. Cheney also was in Abu Dhabi Saturday for talks with the United Arab Emirates president Sheik Khalifa bin Zayid al-Nuhayyan. A senior American official in the vice president's party says UAE officials pledged to help support the Iraqi government. During his Middle East visits, Cheney has pledged the United States and other nations will stand together to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons and dominating the Middle East.
