U.N. Security CouncilThe United Nations Security Council has scheduled
a vote for Saturday on more sanctions against Iran for its refusal to
stop enriching uranium.

The new sanctions would ban all Iranian arms exports and freeze the
assets of 28 more Iranian individuals and institutions.

The five permanent Security Council members, Britain, China, France,
Russia, U.S. plus Germany made last minute changes to the draft
resolution. Some diplomats say they expect it will be approved
unanimously.

The United States and its allies accuse Iran of trying to build
nuclear weapons.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki will try to make Iran's
case for what it says is its right to a peaceful nuclear power
program.

Iranian President President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was to have come to
New York, but called off his trip. Iran accuses the United States of
issuing visas too late.

But State Department spokesman Tom Casey says all visas were approved
and handed over to Iranian representatives in Switzerland Friday.

He says Mr. Ahmadinejad is unwilling to stand before the Security
Council and face criticism for defying the international community.
