Police say the stampede happened Saturday as fans rushed to leave the Chililabombwe stadium in northern Zambia's Copperbelt province. Officials say three women and nine men were crushed to death at the stadium gate.  Another 46 people were injured and taken to a hospital. Zambia beat the Republic of Congo 3-0 in the match.  It was held in Chililabombwe because Zambia's government has ruled the country's largest stadium in Lusaka unfit to hold international matches.
