In an interview on U.S. television Sunday, Fran Townsend said the United States is working with Pakistan's government to stop terrorists from sheltering in tribal areas near Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. President Bush said Saturday in his weekly radio address that a new U.S. intelligence report links al-Qaida's resurgence in Pakistan to a deal that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf made with tribal leaders last year. Mr. Bush says General Musharraf now recognizes the agreement with the tribal leaders was a mistake, and is taking active steps to correct it.  President Bush said the recent Pakistani military assault on extremists at a mosque in Islamabad is evidence of General Musharraf's renewed drive against terrorist groups. That raid in Islamabad triggered militant attacks across the country last week - a wave of violence that has killed more than 160 people. .
