during early morning anti-terrorism raids.

Police say the eight were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of
committing, preparing or instigating terrorism.

British media quote police sources as saying the raids targeted an
alleged plot to kidnap and film the beheading of the victim for
display on the Internet.

The office of British Home Secretary John Reid says he has been fully
briefed on the situation.

Mr. Reid's office called the police operation a reminder of the real
and serious nature of the terrorist threat Britain faces.
