Bombings in Baghdad Kill 5, Wound 20

development, Iraqis rallied in several Shi'ite cities and towns to
protest brief detention by US troops of eldest son of one of Iraq's
most powerful Shi'ite leaders Officials in Iraq say bombings in
Baghdad have killed at least five people and wounded about 20 others.

A car bomb explosion, and a bomb hidden on a minibus killed several
people in central Baghdad. Another blast targeting a police patrol
killed at least one civilian.

In another development Saturday, Iraqis rallied in several Shi'ite
cities and towns - including Najaf, Basra and Karbala - to protest the
detention by U.S. troops of the eldest son of Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, one
of Iraq's most powerful Shi'ite leaders.

Hakim was detained at a border checkpoint Friday when he returned from
a trip to Iran. He was released later the same day.

The U.S. military said Saturday Hakim's convoy was stopped because the
vehicles met "criteria for further investigation" in an area known for
smuggling. The military says Hakim was detained when members of the
convoy failed to cooperate and acted suspiciously.

U.S. officials have apologized for the incident, and said the United
States meant no disrespect to the Hakim family.
