Iran's chief nuclear negotiator says his country and the European
Union are moving closer to "a united view" on how to break the
deadlock over Iran's nuclear program.

Ali Larijani made the remark before a second day of talks Thursday
with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana in Ankara, Turkey.  The two
agreed to meet again in two weeks.

Solana said he did not expect a "great breakthrough" in the Ankara
talks, but hopes to continue the process of negotiations.

The United Nations Security Council has imposed some sanctions on Iran
because of its refusal to stop enriching uranium, a process that can
be used to make fuel for power generation or to make nuclear weapons.

Before the Ankara talks, there were reports that the six world powers
dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue might agree to a compromise
allowing Iran to retain some of its enrichment work.

But a U.S. State Department spokesman said again Wednesday that Iran
must suspend uranium enrichment activities before the international
community will engage in negotiations over its nuclear program.
