Police say the first attack Tuesday took place in the mostly Sunni town of Muqdadiya, where a female suicide bomber blew herself up outside a police recruitment center, killing at least 16 people and wounding 33. Soon after, at least five people were killed and another 10 wounded in a car bomb explosion near Baghdad University. Separately, U.S. and Iraqi forces backed by attack helicopters have been engaged in fierce fighting in a Sunni area (Fadhil) in Baghdad.  Police say there have been casualties. The U.S. military says a helicopter involved in the battle came under fire but was not shot down. In other news, the U.S. military said coalition forces killed one terrorist and detained 12 suspects during raids in Baghdad and Haditha, west of the capital. In a separate statement, the military said coalition troops captured more than 150 suspected insurgents in a nearly two-week operation north of Baghdad. The U.S. military also said four U.S. soldiers were killed Monday in separate incidents in Baghdad and troubled al-Anbar province.
