Judge Ureybi - a Shi'ite Muslim Arab - replaced Abdullah al-Amiri, who was dismissed Tuesday, after prosecutors accused him of bias toward Saddam. Last week, judge Amiri interrupted testimony about Saddam's dictatorial rule and assured the ousted leader he was not a dictator. The former leader and six co-defendants are accused of killing more than 180 thousand Kurds in the late 1980s by ordering the use of poison gas in the Anfal military campaign against the Kurdish community in northern Iraq.
