Meanwhile, the U.S. military says a roadside bomb killed three American soldiers Saturday as they patrolled in a vehicle south of Baghdad. At least 40 American troops have been killed in Iraq this month, making it one of the worst months for U.S. forces since 2005. The security situation in Baghdad has worsened since the start three weeks ago of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, with officials reporting a spike in attacks across the capital. Kirkuk, which is ethnically mixed, was relatively calm until recently.  There has been a spike in violence there too over the last few weeks.
