Palestinian Factions Battle in Gaza

factions since Hamas took control of the Palestinian government Three
Palestinian gunmen were killed Monday in heavy fighting between
Palestinian factions.  VOA's Jim Teeple reports from Jerusalem more
than a dozen people were also wounded in the violence. 

Observers say it was the worst violence between the Hamas and Fatah
Palestinian factions since Hamas took control of the Palestinian
government.  Reporter Mohammed Dawas says the fighting has eased for
now but tensions have not.

"Things are still tense, but the shooting has stopped," Dawas says.

The fighting broke out near the Gaza town of Khan Younis after Hamas
and Fatah militants began kidnapping each other.

Talks between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah and Prime
Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas aimed at resolving control over
Palestinian security forces, ended without agreement on Sunday.
