violence across Iraq.

In the deadliest attack Monday, 11 people were killed and 11 others
wounded in a bombing attack on a road near Khalis, 65 kilometers from
the capital.

Insurgent attacks in Baghdad targeted civilian minibuses, Iraqi police
and coalition convoys.

Britain's Ministry of Defense says a roadside bomb killed two British
soldiers late Sunday in the southern city of Basra.

In another development, the trial of deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam
Hussein and seven co-defendants accused of crimes against humanity
resumed Monday in Baghdad with further testimony from defense
witnesses.

The first witness testified on behalf of Anwad al-Bandar, the chief
judge who sentenced 148 Shi'ites to death for alleged involvement in
an assassination attempt against Saddam. Some information for this
