Bomb Blast Kills Four in Iraqi Capital

in Iraq say four people have been killed and at least seven others
wounded in a car bomb attack in Baghdad.

Authorities say the attack occurred Saturday near a busy bus station
in the capital's southern Dora neighborhood.

The attack came as Iraq's political leaders struggled to reach
agreement on candidates for two key security posts that remain vacant
a week after Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government of national
unity took office.

Mr. Maliki had promised earlier this week that the appointments would
be made by Saturday. But parliament officials said no agreement had
yet been reached.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military in Iraq says a U.S. Marine was killed
Friday during an operation in al-Anbar province.

Separately, two American news reports say U.S. Marines stationed in
Iraq may have deliberately killed at least 15 Iraqi civilians last
November.

The reports by The New York Times and The Associated Press Friday
concern an incident in the town of Haditha. U.S. Marines initially
said the civilian deaths were caused by a roadside bomb and an ensuing
firefight with insurgents. But residents of the town said there was no
gunbattle, and the U.S. forces opened fire without provocation.

U.S. officials quoted in the news reports say a military investigation
is continuing, but that the evidence suggests the killings in the town
of Haditha were not justified.
