Mourners Bid Final Farewell to Former Yugoslav President Slobodan ----------------------------------------------------------------- Milosevic --------- http://enews.voanews.com/t?ctl=116A0D9:3919ACA Milosevic died of heart attack in detention at UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague Socialist party officials stand beside the coffin of Slobodan Milosevic during a final farewell, in Belgrade, March 18, 2006 The body of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic is en route to its burial site on the grounds of his family home in the Serbian town of Pozarevac, east of Belgrade.  Officials from Milosevic's Socialist party say at least 50,000 supporters gathered in a city square in Belgrade Saturday to pay respects to Milosevic who died last week while in detention at the U.N. war crimes tribunal at The Hague.  Officials determined he died of a heart attack. Socialist party officials have eulogized Milosevic as a hero and supporters chanted "Slobo! Slobo!" as his coffin was displayed in the square. Serbian President Boris Tadic ruled out a state funeral or any official remembrances for Milosevic, who was on trial for war crimes and genocide in the Balkan conflicts in the 1990s. Milosevic's widow, Mira Markovic, and son, Marko, planned to remain in Russia where officials said the two expressed fear they would be detained if they traveled to Serbia for the funeral. A Serbian court this week suspended an arrest warrant for Markovic on charges of abuse of power, but authorities said they would still require her to surrender her passport and appear before a judge. Milosevic, known as the "Butcher of the Balkans," was arrested in 2001.  His trial, which lasted nearly four years, was due to end in the next few months.
