Coalition-Taleban Clashes in Afghanistan Kill 19

soldiers, two Afghan soldiers, at least 13 Taleban fighters reported
killed in series of recent clashes Afghan authorities say a suicide
car bomber blew himself up near a German convoy in northern Kunduz
province, killing two Afghan civilians and wounding eight others.

The authorities say a small truck containing explosives blew up near a
coalition reconstruction team convoy, but there were no casualties
among the coalition team.

The blast follows a series of clashes in southern Afghanistan, in
which two British and two Afghan soldiers, and at least 13 Taleban
insurgents were killed.

Britain's Ministry of Defense said the British soldiers were killed
Tuesday in the Sangin valley of Helmand province.

Earlier, insurgents killed two Afghan soldiers in another part of
Helmand province. And local officials say at least 13 Taleban have
been killed in recent fighting.

Coalition forces are conducting their largest anti-Taleban offensive
in Afghanistan since the extremist Islamist group was ousted from
power in 2001.

More than 10,000 coalition and Afghan troops are sweeping southern
Afghanistan to attack Taleban safe havens, in response to an upsurge
in Taleban-led violence.
