Iraqi PM Unveils Reconciliation Plan

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has presented to parliament a
reconciliation plan to reduce violence across the country.

Mr. Maliki told legislators Sunday the plan would include amnesty for
those who did not take part in criminal and terrorist activities. 

There was no mention of a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S.-led
forces in Iraq.

The New York Times newspaper today quotes U.S. officials as saying the
top U.S. commander in Iraq (General George Casey) foresees a major
reduction in U.S. forces there by the end of 2007.

Also Sunday, an al-Qaida-linked insurgent group said it killed four
Russian embassy workers who were abducted in Baghdad earlier this
month.  The group posted an Internet statement, including video
footage showing the killing of at least two of the hostages.

In other violence, a car bomb at the office of the Supreme Council of
the Islamic Revolution near Mosul killed two people.  Insurgent
attacks in Baghdad killed six people.  And U.S. forces killed one
insurgent and detained five others during raids in southern Baghdad.
