The singer's manager said he suffered a fatal heart attack in Virginia Thursday. He was 64-years-old. The Alabama-born Pickett began singing in local churches before moving to Detroit, a center for rhythm and blues and soul. He sang with a group called "The Falcons" in the early 1960s before starting his solo career, recording a number of hits over the next decade - including "Engine Number 9," "Don't Let the Green Grass Fool You," and perhaps his best known hit, "In the Midnight Hour." Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. Some information for this report was provided by AFP, and AP . .
