Officials said Ronald Reagan National airport in Washington was closed because of weather conditions.  Air traffic was disrupted in other major cities, including New York and Philadelphia. Heavy snow snapped trees and power lines near Washington, cutting electricity to thousands of people. The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for parts of New York state.  And there was a heavy snow warning for an area extending from West Virginia to Maine.
