Meanwhile, U.S.-led forces in Khost province have killed at least four
people, including a teenage girl, during a raid.

A U.S. military statement said troops surrounded a suspected insurgent
hideout in the restive province on Tuesday. The statement said troops
entered the building after those inside refused to surrender and fired
on them. During the fight three suspected militants and the girl were
killed.

The statement criticized what it called "enemies of the Afghan
government" of using civilians as human shields.

On Monday, a Brussels-based research institute said Pakistan's
agreement with tribal elders to reign in Islamic militants instead has
led to increased attacks along the Afghan border.

The International Crisis Group said the peace deal has given the
militants more latitude for recruiting new members and training for
fighting in Afghanistan.
