A military statement Saturday says the suspects were taken into custody Friday in a predominantly Sunni Arab neighborhood of Baghdad, Arab Jabour. The military says the men are believed to be linked to an al-Qaida cell responsible for car bombings in Baghdad. Some 50,000 U.S. and Iraqi forces are taking part in a new operation, Operation Together Forward, designed to quell persistent violence in and around Baghdad. Elsewhere, Iraqi insurgents killed at least 12 people in attacks around the country today. Among them was a police captain shot dead as he was heading to work in Baquba, north of the capital. Two people were killed in the southern city of Basra when insurgents left a bomb in a shop that sold videos and cassette tapes. And the U.S. military announced that two soldiers in the multinational force were killed Saturday by an improvised explosive device on a road south of Baghdad.
