North of Baghdad, a roadside bomb killed 23 soldiers when it ripped through a bus carrying Iraqi troops. In the city of Mahmoudiya, a car bomb killed seven people, including one policeman. Another car bomb outside a bank in Baghdad killed 14 people and wounded many others. The dead include several soldiers. The bank usually is busy on the first day of the month when soldiers draw their salary payments. Other bombings today in the northern oil city of Kirkuk and the town of Muqdadiya killed 10 people. And the British military says a mortar attack killed a British soldier at a base in Basra. In another incident, a roadside bomb killed an American soldier south of Baghdad. Authorities say sectarian violence has forced 20,000 Iraqis to leave their homes during the past 10 days. Over the past six months, sectarian strife has displaced more than 180,000 people.
