Al-Jazeera Broadcasts New bin Laden Tape

first from bin Laden since a January recording in which he threatened
more attacks against US Arabic broadcaster al-Jazeera has aired what
it says is a new audiotape from al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

In the tape, a man identified as bin Laden says the West's decision to
cut off funds to the Palestinian Hamas-led government proves it is at
war with Islam. He also mentioned the situation in Darfur and the
publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist
earlier this year.

If authenticated, Sunday's tape would be the first from bin Laden
since a January recording in which he threatened more attacks against
the United States. He also offered a truce in that tape, which the
