U.S. soldiers secure the scene of a car bomb explosion Saturday April
15, 2006 in BaghdadOfficials in Iraq say at least eight people have
been killed by insurgent violence across Iraq.

Saturday's most deadly attack killed at least four people and wounded
about 20 others when a car bomb exploded next to a restaurant in
eastern Baghdad.

In the southern Baghdad neighborhood of Dora, three Iraqi soldiers
were killed and at least three others wounded in a roadside bombing.

And in southern Iraq, officials say gunmen killed the director of
traffic police as he was driving to work in Basra.

The latest violence comes as leaders of the three main political
parties prepare for Monday's parliamentary session.

A Shi'ite spokesman said Friday members of the Shi'ite alliance will
meet before the parliamentary session to discuss who should fill
several government posts, including the powerful position of prime
minister.

Kurdish and Sunni Arab politicians have rejected the Shi'ite
candidate, current Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari. They say he has
done little to stop the sectarian violence ravaging the country.
