Thousands of Christian Pilgrims Mark Good Friday in Jerusalem

Christian worshippers carry a large wooden cross into the Church of
the Holy Sepulchre Thousands of Christian pilgrims have joined the
Good Friday procession here on the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem's Old
City. They are marching down the narrow cobblestone streets, retracing
the footsteps of Jesus to the 14 stations of the cross. In front of
me, six men have hoisted a big wooden cross on their shoulders as they
head to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the traditional site of the
crucifixion.

Israeli troops with assault rifles are guarding the route, but the
atmosphere is calm. Israeli-Palestinian violence has scared pilgrims
away in recent years, but it's a big turnout this year, thanks to a
lull in terrorism.
