Anti-war activists say the demonstration will be the largest since the war began. The protesters will rally near the Washington monument and march past the White House. Counter-protesters plan smaller demonstrations in the area. Among the anti-war protesters will be Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq. She gained attention for camping outside President Bush's Texas ranch for several weeks, demanding to meet with the president. Polls indicate the American public is growing increasingly uneasy with the costs of the Iraq war, especially with the added national expense of Hurricane Katrina. President Bush has repeatedly said pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq prematurely would make the world more dangerous. .
