UN Warns Funding Shortage Could Ground Quake Relief Flights ----------------------------------------------------------- (http://enews.voanews.com/t?ctl=F8EFBA:3919ACA UN World Food Program emergency coordinator says world body has enough money to support helicopters for one more week United Nations officials say helicopters delivering relief supplies to quake survivors in Pakistan could be grounded soon from a lack of funding. U.N. World Food Program emergency coordinator Michael Jones said in Islamabad Friday, the world body has enough money to support the helicopters for one more week. The helicopters have been the backbone of efforts to get tents, blankets and food to some three million people left homeless by the earthquake. Mr. Jones' comments followed a chorus of warnings in recent days by relief officials who have expressed alarm at the small amount of donations received for the world body's emergency appeal for Pakistan. Wednesday in Geneva, the international community pledged $580 million in quake relief and reconstruction aid for Pakistan, but only $16 million for the emergency flash appeal.
