Investigators Question Lebanese President About Hariri Assassination

Nations investigators looking into the assassination of former
Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri have questioned President Emile
Lahoud about the case.

The investigators took Mr. Lahoud's statement late Friday at the
presidential palace.

A statement released by the palace says Mr. Lahoud gave the
investigators details about what was said in phone calls made to the
palace before the truck bombing that killed Mr. Hariri and 22 others
in Beirut.

A U.N. interim report last month did not refer to Mr. Lahoud as a
suspect, but said a suspect called the president's phone minutes
before the blast.

The report implicated Lebanese and Syrian officials in the February
assassination, which sparked political upheaval and led to the
withdrawal of Syrian forces from Lebanon.

Four Lebanese generals with ties to Syria were arrested in September.
