The reports say troops arrived at the town overnight and arrested a rebel leader Bakhtiyor Rakhimov, who had said earlier that he intended to establish an Islamic state. Meanwhile, the United States has called for an internationally backed investigation into last Friday's events in Andijan - the site deadly clashes between security forces and anti-government demonstrators. One opposition group estimates that 745 people were killed. The government blames Islamic extremists for the violence and says the death toll is 169, including 32 soldiers. Uzbek officials took foreign diplomats on a tour of the city Wednesday. But some of the diplomats complained they were not allowed to roam freely.
