President BushPresident Bush has telephoned a Native American tribal
chairman to express sorrow about a shooting spree on a reservation
that left 10 people dead. 

The president offered federal assistance to the Red Lake Chippewa
tribe, which has been devastated by Monday's massacre in northern
Minnesota. A 16-year-old gunman killed his grandfather, his
grandfather's companion and seven others at Red Lake High School
before killing himself.

Tribe Chairman Floyd Jourdain said he appreciated the president's
call.  However, some Native Americans have complained that Mr.
Bush has not adequately responded to the shootings.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has sent 10 victim specialists to
assess the community's needs.

Wakes and traditional Native American funerals for the victims begin
Saturday.
